Southeast Asian Taxonomic Network
Since 2005, the Harrison Institute has been actively promoting and facilitating the development of a taxonomic network within continental Southeast Asia.
Host countries include Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam. [more information]
The aims of the network are to:
- promote the exchange of ideas and inter-institutional training programmes
- facilitate trans-national research collaboration
- facilitate inter-institutional loans of voucher material
- host regional/international workshops and conferences
Currently, this network, although active in research and training projects, has been run on a project by project basis and is rather informal in nature. It is also primarily concerned with the study of mammal taxonomy and particularly bats.
Future plans include developing more formal linkages between the participants and ultimately an expansion into other faunal and floral groups and a geographical expansion to encompass much of the Old World tropics.
